5/22/10 Trotwood’s Henry takes first in 4 events at district meet
Henry, a senior who will run his college track at Arizona State, looked smooth winning three individual events and anchoring the first-place 1,600-meter relay Friday, May 21, in the Troy Division I district track and field championships at Troy Memorial Stadium.
Rain and lightning delayed the start of the meet for more than an hour.
Henry’s toughest race was the 100, which he won in 10.90 seconds. Wayne’s Demoye Bogle was second in 11.00, and Jared Walker of Northmont was third in 11.13.
“This is only my third meet running the 100 so I still have a lot of little things to work on at the beginning of the race,” Henry said following the meet. “But I really had come on in the last 30 meters because I knew Demoye would be there.
“I could really tell running 100 is helping me in the 400 and on the anchor leg of the relay because I felt stronger at the end of both races than I have all year. I know trying to triple in all three races at district, regional and state is tough. But I feel like I’m in good enough condition now to do it. Winning three races tonight really is a big boost of confidence mentally.”
Henry cruised in the 200 (21.77) and 400 (48.63). He joined Renon Lorenz, Julius Jones and Julius Ruby in taking the 1,600 relay in 3:22.12. Sidney was a distant second in 3:27.93.
Wayne won the boys team championship with 120 points to 107 for Trotwood.
Bogle was Wayne’s top point producer as he took second in 100, third behind Henry and Ruby in the 200 (22.51) and won the 110-meter high hurdles (14.30) and 300-meter intermediate hurdles (37.97).
